Elizabeth Arnold - Riverbed Spin Ring

Dimensions: 1.7mm x 9.3mm

Artist Statement: Rings have a unique place in your daily ensemble: The rings you choose to wear are constantly in view and at your fingertips where they can function not only as a beautiful objects but also as tools. The design and structure of this particular beautiful tool grew from my own experiences with managing anxiety. I personally get a lot of anxiety relief from ‘fidgeting’ behaviors but my habit of picking at my fingernails or tapping my heel is less than ideal. The smooth, silent, engrossing action on this spin ring serves the same purpose in a more pleasing way both for myself and for those around me! This ring also addresses anxiety in another way: the riverbed texture is a subtle reminder to practice mindfulness. Many mindfulness and meditation exercises use the metaphor of flowing water. My favorite version is a small rocky stream like the one running down the center of this ring. If you are managing anxiety or practicing mindfulness, consider how helpful a ring could be as a tool. And please consider my Riverbed Spin Ring.

Artist Bio: Elizabeth is a graduate of Oberlin College, where along with a studio art degree she picked up the rudiments of making chainmail-based jewelry. After expanding her jewelry skills into goldsmithing with a degree from North Bennet Street School, she worked as a bench jeweler for four years with Melanie Casey Jewelry. Now she is the jeweler behind Alloys by Arnold, a jewelry fabrication and design shop (meaning everything is made by hand in house!) which focuses on made-to-order comfort, seamless kinetic action, and abstract textures paired with modern lines.
