Kathryn Aikin - Nile Fortune Ring

Artist: Kathryn Aikin, Maryland
Materials: resin, galvanized steel, brass, and the mystical arts
Size: 7.5
Dimensions: 2 3/8 inches wide x 3/4 inch tall, 1/16 inch band width

Artist Statement: A lighthearted game in two parts, inspired by Nile Fortune Telling Cards. One part is worn as a ring and the other part is a necklace. The person whose fortune is being told makes a reasonable wish and spins the pointer. The top of the pointer will point to Ace through King. The bottom of the pointer will point to a suit: hearts, clubs, spades, or diamonds. Spin the pointer and look up the fortune for that combination in the book. If the nine of hearts appears, the wish is granted automatically.

Artist Bio: Kathryn Aikin is a full time scientist and part time artist who makes organic inspired ornaments. Her modern resin works explore hidden and changing nature such as the secrets of trees revealed in growth rings, midlife stalactites, and ephemeral sandcastles. She has participated in over 30 juried shows and is a member of the Washington Guild of Goldsmiths.
