Kim Harrell - spRING

Artist: Kim Harrell, Colorado
Materials: sterling silver
Size: 7.5
Dimensions: Width: 15mm

Artist Statement: My current work is focused on texture, line, and form, often incorporating a signature feature, the overlap. Having spent 30+ years making work, I have distilled my minimalist approach to the point where archetypal elements prevail - nothing is more archetypal than the circle and the spiral. I also wanted the piece to have a sense of whimsy, another element that can be found in my work. ‘spRING’ is the result. It makes noises when you spring the layers on your finger, or when you drop it, and can be fiddled with. Made from a single piece of sterling silver and textured with my stone age tool (a rock!), it is quintessentially representative of me down to the spring in my curls!

Artist Bio: I am a silversmith/jewelry artist with a degree in Silversmithing, Jewelry Design and Allied Crafts from London Metropolitan University. A native of Denver, Colorado, I currently reside in Aurora, CO where I also have my studio. I teach locally, mentor emerging metalsmiths nationally and am the current President of the Colorado Metalsmithing Association.
