Prerequisites: none

Explore the possibilities and processes of introducing alternative materials into jewelry and small object making. Gain skill using concrete/cement in conjunction with color dyes to create colorful pieces. Learn mold making techniques with some basic 3-D printed materials and spend time exploring and creating unique designs. All Levels-No required knowledge in 3-D Printing Required.


Materials ($65 fee applies):

  • rubber gloves
  • popsicle sticks
  • silicone mixing cups
  • dry/wet sanding paper
  • Mold Star two part mold
  • Rockite cement

Students MUST Bring:

NOTE: Students should bring some metals to play with. Silver, copper and brass are available to purchase in the studio but bring a variety of what you have on hand so you have options.

  • Silver and/or copper sheets a variety of gauges, 18-22. (available in studio store)
  • Silver and/or copper tubing, any size (silver available in studio store)
  • Silver solder (available in studio store)
  • Bring couple/few small items that could be molded, no more than 1.5 x 1.5 x 1.5 inches in size

Instructor Bio:

Born in war torn Lebanon and moved to the United States in 1998, Michael Nashef has earned his M.F.A in Metals/Jewelry Design from Bowling Green State University. Nashef has managed a jewelry store, worked as a CAD designer, launched his fine jewelry company Intersecting Hearts, and invented few tools that are used in the jewelry industry. He worked as the area coordinator and lecturer at Towson University in Maryland, and currently is an instructor at Western Michigan University. Nashef has an extensive record of exhibition including solo and international shows, and had won many awards, including being aquired by the MAD museum in New York city. He is published in books such as JaMs and New Bracelets.
