Fun Enameled Earrings

December 10, Saturday, 9am-3:30pm
Class Fee: $165 | Basic materials included

Class format: in studio at Danaca Design

Prerequisites: no experience required

Make a pair (or two!) of earrings in time for the holidays in this introductory kiln-fired enamels class. Explore the world of enamel, an age old and timeless technique of applying glass to metal. Working with copper and opaque enamels, students will learn how to apply enamel using both dry sifting and wet laying techniques on flat and domed shapes. We’ll experiment with stencils, sgraffito, and glass beads to create fun patterns and designs. Sterling silver ear wires will be provided to finish off your projects, enabling you to wear your creation home or gift it this holiday season. No experience required.

Materials INCLUDED:

  • 2 sets of sterling silver earwires
  • 6 pre-cut copper circles
  • A few inches of copper sheet for custom shapes

Students MAY Bring:

  • Pre-cut 20 or 22 gauge copper shapes
  • Stencils
  • Lead-free dry enamels
  • Findings

Instructor Bio:

Michelle Zeidman is a Seattle-based artist and avid traveler. She discovered the joy of enamel jewelry at Danaca Design in the summer of 2017, and has been studying enamel and silversmithing ever since. She takes her inspiration from nature and patterns found in the urban environment. Her enamel jewelry is sold at Smith & Vallee Gallery in Bow, WA and on Etsy. When she's not playing in the studio, she can be found drawing line art animals, creating watercolor paintings that feature wildlife and wildflowers, hiking in the mountains, and SUPing on Washington's waterways. What students are saying:

"Impressed with the organization and storage of tools in the studio! Exemplary!" -Suzanna

"I loved everything about this class. Michelle was a great instructor, was easy to talk to, and made herself available. The space was great; I really loved that their were 2 kilns so that the queues did not get too long. The only thing I'd change about this class was to make it 2 consecutive weekends, so I could come back next week. =D" -Cortney

"Awesome class! Michelle was wonderful and I’m excited to try more jewelry-making!" -Willow
