Artist Statement:
My fascination with the beauty of design in nature serves as motivation; from the patterns in sacred geometry conversing with the gentle spiral of the golden ratio. The introspection of my own world fuels the creation of these intricate seed structures infused with life and nature. Falling deep into the process of creating and my own experience, my "Infused" series became my interpretation of seed pods as a protective space. These protective structures allow one to be visible but protected. Mother nature protects each little seed until it is ready to grow. There is a period of dormancy where they plant will wait and then when the conditions are right, it will germinate and grow into a new plant or flower. Similar to how one may grow when they are in the right place, in the right time.

Artist Bio:
Leah Meleski is a motivated, passionate artist, metalsmith and art educator. She received her B.F.A. in Art Education & Fine Arts 3D/Metals from Massachusetts College of Art & Design in 2008. Leah moved to Bellingham, WA in 2018 to be closer to family and enjoy the Pacific Northwest with her two dogs. In her studio practice Leah creates, plays, explores, and experiments allowing this work to lead to something new. As both and artist and educator, Leah knows the importance of learning about new materials, artists and techniques and introduces them in ways that students can see the process and develop their own artistic voice. Both of these practices inspire each other and fosters a sense of curiosity and play.
