Madison Egleston - Phishing for Motion

Artist: Madison Egleston, Ohio
Materials: brass, flocking media, fishing balls, hand-formed acrylic
Size: 10
Dimensions: 2" height, 3mm band

Artist Statement: This ring is an exploration of everyday materials. I utilized sinker balls for fishing because of their bright colors and lightweight feel in conjunction with polished brass and acrylic. The whimsy of loose objects trapped beneath the hand-formed acrylic implies motion and brings playfulness to a traditional bezel set form.

Artist Bio: Madison Egleston is an artist, metalsmith, and plastic enthusiast from Akron, Ohio. Growing up, Madison always loved making art and as a teenager began her artistic journey as a ceramics instructor at a local studio. After high school, she continued her education at Kent State University in Kent, Ohio where she studied Jewelry and Metalsmithing under Andrew Kuebeck. In 2019 she received her Bachelors of Fine and in 2020 accepted a Graduate Assistantship at Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. In her time at graduate school, Madison found a new passion in woodworking and declared a minor in Wood Furniture design. Currently, Madison continues to study under Sue Amendolara, Karen Ernst, and Cappy Counard. When she’s not in her studio working, Madison can be found out outdoors exploring nature, reading romantic fiction, or playing with her cat, Yvie.
