Maricha Genovese - Sunflower, Weary of Time
Artist: Maricha Genovese, Pennsylvania
Materials: 18K yellow gold, silver, yellow sapphire
Dimensions: sunflower: 13x13mm, band width: approx. 2.5mm
Artist Statement: Inspired by the wish to harness the sun’s power, energy, warmth and comfort, this talisman resembles the large and hearty sunflower, who stands tall and steadfast day after day as it follows the sun from dawn to dusk, absorbing its solar power to grow and thrive. This ring was hand-carved in wax and cast in metals resembling its real-life colors. The seeds and branch-like ring shank are made in sterling silver, then oxidized for depth and detail. The 18K yellow gold petals are radiant and bright against the dark silver. Small yellow sapphires embedded within some of the petals give a sparkle reminiscent of raindrops just after a sun shower.
Artist Bio: From early on Maricha explored many artistic mediums, always finding joy in visual expression. Making things with her hands has been an important constant throughout her life. Ultimately realizing she could combine her love of art, nostalgia and her longtime fascination with miniatures is what led Maricha to pursue a career in jewelry-making. After 10 years of working with mentors in the field, Maricha started her own business. She lives and works in Philadelphia where she enjoys inspirational walks through the Wissahickon and creating work in her studio in South Philadelphia.
Rings from this collection will ship or be available for pick up after the competition concludes on April 29.
