Mia Kaplan - Checkered Ring
Artist: Mia Kaplan, North Carolina
Materials: brass, copper, sterling silver
Dimensions: 7/8" x 1" x 1 1/8"
Artist Statement: I am drawn to the technique of marriage of metals and utilize the colors of copper, brass, bronze, and silver to bring color and create patterns and imagery in my work. This checkered ring is constructed out of a marriage of brass and copper. The ring has a smooth concave face that is a lot like a worry stone, with a thumb sized indentation. The black and gold pattern is graphic and bold, while the silver sets the stage with a satiny and calming contrast.
