Ryan Woods - Ripples and Lace

Artist: Ryan Woods
Materials: lab grown diamonds, copper/silver Mokume Gane, sterling silver
Size: 6
Dimensions: 2.5mm high, 7.5mm wide

Artist Statement:
With this ring, I wanted to marry some of the organic aspects of Mokume Gane with the traditional styling of antique Jewelry. I started with a mokume domed band and added a pierced sleeve to add negative space to the inside of the ring. I set seventy 0.6mm lab grown diamonds around each edge with traditional shared prong bead setting. I hand engraved a criss-cross pattern on the outside and added tiny milligrain to the engraved pattern. The ring has a high polish with a patinaed inner area to accentuate the negative space. The polished finish of the copper will patina over time to add character and organic elements to what is initially a very traditional design.

Artist Bio:
Ryan grew up in the mountains of the pacific northwest. Diving into the deep end of the Jewelry world, he started his apprenticeship with a master platinum smith at 17. After learning from talented metalsmiths in the Seattle area, his focus is now on using his own business to make the highest quality custom Jewelry with a specialty in computer modeled engagement rings and traditional stone setting methods.
