Artist Statement: This belt buckle was created to express gratitude to all the givers in my community. The honey bee in the center of the belt buckle represents my favorite local giver and the small swarm of stamped honey bees represents all the people doing good work not only in my community but in other towns as well. Bees are all about giving and sacrifice because ultimately they defend their hive with their own lives. Bees are the only insect that produces food for humans to eat. They keep the inside of their hive warm by vibrating their bodies. Everything they do is for the betterment of their community. Without the efforts of the bees, the planet would be in an untenable position. Likewise, there are many people out there doing good work. Whether it’s the person who picks up trash on their morning walk, the person who provides food to the poor, or all the people collaborating to plan for a better future, we should celebrate the givers of the world. Without them, we’d be in a very sorry place.
