Prominence II

Artist: Emily Zawislak

Materials: sterling silver, 18k gold, onyx, turquoise

Dimensions: 2.75" x 3"

Beneficiary: Overcoming Racism provides coaching, consulting, and workshops to teach and develop anti-racist educators and leaders. The organization operates under the belief that there is no problem facing people of color in our society that ending racism won’t solve, and aims to attack the equity issues in our educational system at the source, by creating anti-racist educators who educate the next generation of change agents.

Artist Statement: Prominence: noun, the fact or condition of standing out from something by physically projecting or being particularly noticeable.

Hand forged and fabricated, this pendant features a freeform slice on Onyx to ground the design and an arrow of turquoise pointed toward the cosmos, with a touch of gold between the two for vitality. The tapered accents give a sense of strength and protection, yet have been sanded smooth to wear with ease and comfort against the skin. A celebration of duality and harmony.
