Prerequisites: none, beginners welcome!

The hydraulic press makes easy work of creating volume in jewelry with little weight and lots of pizzazz! In this one-day workshop students will explore texturing copper sheet with a variety of materials using a rolling mill, anneal the textured sheets and then puffed them into shapes with the hydraulic press. Hearts are perfect for Mother's day but many shapes can be produce using this process with the dies available in the studio. Students will then saw out their shapes, drill holes and rivet their shapes together to become hoops or a pendant with silver wire. This is a workshop jammed full of technical info and creative opportunities!


Materials INCLUDED:

  • Copper sheet, Copper mesh and Sterling wire.


Students MUST Bring:

  • Lace, leaves, crumpled paper, any thing you think might make an interesting texture. We have lots of options in the studio as well.



Instructor Bio:

Sarah Jane Sindler, owner and designer of KING RELD is an avant-garde creator of custom and ready-made jewelry in her Brewhouse Arts studio in Pittsburgh's Southside. She is a teaching-artist and has taught at Protohaven, Center for Contemporary Craft, and Pittsburgh Center for Arts and Media, along with private lessons in her studio. In lieu of a jewelry degree, Sindler completed a 5-year apprenticeship under third-generation jeweler Ira Helfer of David I. Helfer Jewelers in Pittsburgh. Sindler's work has been exhibited by the Carnegie Museum of Art and the Society of North American Goldsmiths, among others.
